WITHIN Melbourne

Experience design doesn’t have to begin when people go somewhere extraordinary. It can begin when they come home.

WITHIN Melbourne is an original SCstudio creative concept exploring a new approach to residential living, where architecture, hospitality, landscape, brand and experience design come together to create something more considered than a traditional property development.

The concept asks a simple question: what if the principles used to create memorable destinations and immersive environments were applied to the places we experience every day? The result is a vision for contemporary Melbourne living shaped around wellbeing, connection, nature and a stronger sense of place.

CLARITY

Residential developments are often communicated through familiar visual and architectural conventions. For WITHIN, the opportunity was to look beyond the building itself and define a richer experience around how people discover, understand and ultimately connect with a place they may one day call home.

SCstudio established a clear creative proposition around the idea of “A new world of living, within Melbourne”, positioning the project at the intersection of residential development, hospitality, landscape and experience design. The concept deliberately moves away from spectacle, instead imagining thoughtful environments that support everyday life and make arrival, movement, interaction and belonging feel more meaningful.

POSSIBILITY

The Possibility stage is where SCstudio uses concept art to make an emerging idea visible.

For WITHIN, this meant building a believable creative world before every architectural, brand or digital decision had been resolved. AI-enhanced key art was used alongside creative direction and experience design thinking to explore architecture, landscape, communal spaces, arrival moments and the overall emotional character of the development.

Concept art becomes more than an illustration of an idea at this stage. It acts as a creative testing ground, helping define the atmosphere, materiality, guest journey and visual language that can inform everything that follows.

Through this process, WITHIN evolved into a cohesive residential experience rather than simply a collection of buildings, with nature, hospitality and social spaces woven into the way people move through and experience the development.

TRANSFORMATION

The ideas established through concept development were then translated into a broader design system across brand and visual identity, digital experiences and environmental signage.

A distinctive WITHIN Melbourne identity was developed to feel contemporary, architectural and understated, creating a visual language capable of moving naturally between physical and digital touchpoints. The brand was explored across mobile interfaces and property discovery experiences, extending the customer journey beyond conventional real estate marketing and considering how the relationship with WITHIN could begin long before a resident arrives on site.

Within the physical environment, the same thinking informed signage and wayfinding concepts, including refined architectural signage integrated with landscape and material finishes.

Together, these applications demonstrate the role of the SCstudio process: Possibility creates the vision, while Transformation gives that vision a consistent expression across brand, digital and place.

THE SCstudio PERSPECTIVE

WITHIN Melbourne is an exploration of how experience design can influence the environments we inhabit every day.

It demonstrates how an original idea can move from concept art into an interconnected ecosystem of architecture, landscape, identity, digital experience and environmental communication, all guided by one central thought:

Experience design doesn’t have to begin when people go somewhere extraordinary. It can begin when they come home.

Qiddiya CITY

Blue Sky Concept

Over more than two years, Dave was contracted to ThinkOTS as Creative Director and Senior Art Director, contributing to the development of 15+ IP-specific blue-sky concepts for Qiddiya City. Working across a diverse portfolio of globally recognised entertainment properties, the projects explored entirely new possibilities for immersive environments, attractions and destination experiences. From early creative strategy and storytelling through to world-building, guest experience and visual direction, each concept was developed to establish a compelling creative foundation for a one-of-a-kind experience. All projects remain under NDA and are currently progressing through various stages of development.

CLARITY

Every great immersive experience needs a clear idea at its centre. Working with established IP brings rich worlds, characters and stories, but also a complex network of creative expectations, brand requirements and physical constraints. Dave’s role was to help distil each property into the ideas, emotions and experiences that mattered most, creating a clear creative vision capable of guiding a much larger design and development process.

POSSIBILITY

Blue-sky thinking created the opportunity to move beyond familiar interpretations of each IP and ask a more ambitious question: what could this world become if guests were able to physically step inside it? Across more than 15 concepts, Dave helped lead multidisciplinary creative exploration spanning immersive environments, attractions, storytelling, placemaking, interactive experiences and entertainment. The objective was not simply to recreate existing worlds, but to discover new experiences that could only exist in a destination such as Qiddiya City.

TRANSFORMATION

The resulting concepts transformed stories and IP into tangible experience propositions, establishing the creative DNA from which future environments, attractions and guest journeys could grow. Through creative direction, visual development and experience design, abstract ideas were shaped into coherent worlds that could be communicated, evaluated and advanced by wider project teams. Today, these concepts sit at various stages of development as part of Qiddiya City’s evolving entertainment landscape.

Lumenlea

Lumenlea

LUMENLEA

A cozy-game world reimagined as a real place to explore, gather and belong.

Lumenlea is an original blue-sky destination concept exploring how the emotional qualities of cozy games could translate into a physical, location-based experience. Rather than building the world around rides and constant stimulation, the concept focuses on atmosphere, discovery, social rituals and small moments of participation. Gardens, libraries, markets, workshops, lakeside spaces and seasonal gatherings come together to create a place designed not only to entertain guests, but to invite them to slow down, wander and stay awhile.

Creative Direction • Concept Development • Experience Design • Worldbuilding • Key Art (AI Enhanced)

CLARITY

The starting point was a simple question: what makes a cozy game feel cozy, and how could those qualities exist in the real world? The challenge was to move beyond familiar theme-park conventions and identify the behaviours, emotions and spatial qualities that define the genre, from collecting and crafting to exploration, relaxation, food, nature and community.

This established a clear creative principle for the project: Lumenlea should feel less like a sequence of attractions and more like a living world guests can inhabit at their own pace.

POSSIBILITY

From that foundation, we developed a series of environments and key-art concepts that expanded the world of Lumenlea. Ideas ranged from the Great Lumenlea Library and Village Market to craft spaces, fishing piers, greenhouses, bakeries, gardens and nighttime gathering places. Each concept explored a different form of participation, helping define what guests might actually do throughout an entire day.

The result was a richer vision of a destination built around curiosity, creativity, social connection and everyday rituals, where even reading a book, decorating a lantern or sharing a pastry could become part of the experience.

TRANSFORMATION

Lumenlea evolved from a visual fantasy into a broader experience philosophy: Adventure outside. Belonging inside.

The concept demonstrates how a location-based destination can create value through both spectacle and stillness, giving guests permission to explore, play, make, eat, collect, gather or simply exist within the world.

By treating small moments as attractions in their own right, Lumenlea proposes a different kind of theme-park experience, one shaped as much by emotional connection and dwell time as by traditional entertainment.

Hospital Playground

Hospital Playground

Hospital Playground

An imaginative approach to conceptual healing environments.

Hospital Playground is an original SCstudio concept exploring how healthcare environments for children and families could feel warmer, more human and more imaginative. Rather than treating play as a separate room or amenity, the concept places it at the heart of the environment, transforming a conventional hospital atrium into an immersive landscape of treehouses, bridges, sensory spaces, quiet retreats and places to explore.

Creative Direction • Concept Development • Experience Design • Key Art (AI Enhanced)

CLARITY

Hospitals must perform complex clinical functions, but for children and families they can also be unfamiliar, intimidating environments. We began with a simple question: what if the experience of arriving at and moving through a children’s hospital felt less institutional and more welcoming?

The concept establishes a clear environmental idea around nature, discovery and play. A monumental tree becomes the organising feature of the space, creating an intuitive visual landmark around which patient rooms, family spaces, circulation and shared amenities can coexist.

POSSIBILITY

From that starting point, we imagined the hospital as an interconnected world rather than a collection of corridors and waiting rooms. Elevated walkways, treehouse rooms, slides, sensory activities, reading spaces, gardens and sheltered nooks create different ways for children and families to engage with the environment.

Play is considered broadly, from energetic exploration to tactile discovery, storytelling, social interaction and quiet moments of retreat. The architecture itself becomes part of the experience, offering moments of curiosity and choice throughout the building.

TRANSFORMATION

The result is a speculative vision of a healthcare environment in which clinical function and imaginative experience are not competing ideas. Natural forms, warm materials, planting, soft lighting and playful architecture transform the hospital atrium into a place with its own character, rhythm and sense of discovery.

Hospital Playground demonstrates SCstudio’s approach to immersive environments: looking beyond the expected function of a space and asking how creative thinking, storytelling and experience design might completely change the way that space feels to the people within it.

Monolithium

Monolithium

MONOLITHIUM

Original Concept Art & World-Building for an Immersive Experience.

MONOLITHIUM is an original SCstudio concept exploring the creation of a monumental immersive world shaped by an unexplained material, force or phenomenon. Conceived through world-building, environmental storytelling and concept art, the project imagines a place where vast architectural forms, altered landscapes and unfamiliar technologies all appear to originate from the same mysterious source: Monolithium.

The environments have been visualised as the setting for a large-scale electronic dance experience, drawing on the spectacle, energy and communal scale of global events such as Tomorrowland, while creating an entirely original world and visual identity. Rather than explaining the world outright, the experience is designed around discovery, inviting guests to enter something ancient, powerful and not yet fully understood.

Creative Direction • Concept Development • Experience Design • Worldbuilding • Key Art (AI Enhanced)

CLARITY

The starting point was a simple creative question: how do we build an immersive experience around a single idea strong enough to influence everything guests see and feel?

Instead of approaching the environment as a collection of separate attractions or stages, SCstudio established a clear visual and narrative foundation based on monumentality, mystery, scale and discovery. This created a framework in which architecture, landscape, technology, performance and music could all feel as though they belonged to the same world.

POSSIBILITY

From that foundation, Monolithium became more than the title of the experience. It evolved into the central world-building device itself: a mysterious substance or phenomenon capable of shaping environments, powering technologies and influencing the cultures that encounter it.

This opened the possibility for dramatically different spaces to exist within one coherent universe, from colossal structures and subterranean discoveries to strange machines, transformed landscapes and vast gathering spaces designed for electronic music, performance and spectacle.

Concept art became the tool for testing these possibilities, allowing the world to grow through atmosphere, scale, architecture, lighting and visual storytelling.

TRANSFORMATION

The result is an original immersive experience in which a single speculative idea transforms into an expandable world.

Monolithium provides a narrative logic that can connect architecture, guest journeys, live performance, music, environments and future story development without requiring every mystery to be resolved.

What began as an exploration of monumental forms has become the foundation for a distinctive experiential universe, one capable of supporting the energy and scale of a major electronic dance event while remaining rooted in its own mythology.

Was Monolithium discovered… or did it arrive?
